UI/UX Design for Australian Products

User research, prototypes and design systems built for Australian users, accessibility law and government service standards, with reviews in your afternoon.

UI/UX Design for Australia

UI/UX Design, built around how Australia works

Designing for Australians means getting local details right: addresses with suburb, state and postcode, mobile numbers starting with 04, DD/MM/YYYY dates, GST-inclusive prices and Australian English. It also means designing for a wide spread of conditions, from inner-city users on fast connections to farmers checking an app on patchy rural coverage. Nexzem's designers in India produce research, wireframes and Figma design systems for Australian clients, with live reviews in your afternoon.

Accessibility is a legal expectation as well as good practice: the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 covers digital services, and government services are assessed against the Digital Service Standard. Our UX research and product design and prototyping work builds both in from the first sketch.

Accessibility under the DDA and WCAG

The Australian Human Rights Commission has long pointed to WCAG as the benchmark for accessible web content, and complaints under the Disability Discrimination Act can follow when a service shuts people out. We design to WCAG 2.2 Level AA: contrast and type scales tested in Figma, focus order and screen reader labels annotated for developers, captions planned for video, and alternatives for drag or gesture controls.

Designing for distance, connectivity and time zones

Australia spans several time zones, with daylight saving in some states and not others, so scheduling and booking screens must always show which zone a time refers to. For regional and remote users we design for slow or intermittent connections: lightweight screens, clear offline-first states and forms that save progress, which also suits field workers in construction, mining and agriculture.

Research with Australian users

We recruit Australian participants through panels such as Askable, UserTesting or Prolific, schedule moderated sessions in the Indian morning, which is the Australian afternoon, and include regional participants when the product serves them. For government and community services we plan for users with low digital confidence and, where relevant, work with your advisers on culturally appropriate research with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

What our UI/UX design covers

User research, interface design and design systems for web and mobile products people find easy to use.

  1. 01

    UX Strategy and Flows

User journeys, task flows and information architecture that define how people move through your product before visual design begins.

  2. 02

    Wireframing

Low-fidelity layouts that settle structure, content priority and navigation quickly, so feedback focuses on function rather than colours.

  3. 03

    Mobile App UI Design

iOS and Android interfaces that respect platform conventions, thumb reach and small screens while staying true to your brand.

  4. 04

    Web and SaaS UI Design

Dashboards, data tables, forms and settings screens designed for clarity, including the empty, loading and error states most designs forget.

  5. 05

    Design Systems

Reusable Figma components, tokens and usage guidelines that keep design consistent and speed up both designers and developers.

  6. 06

    UX Audit

A heuristic review of an existing product that highlights usability issues with annotated screenshots and a prioritised list of fixes.

  7. 07

    Accessible Design

Contrast, focus states, touch targets and readable type designed to WCAG guidelines from the very first wireframe onwards.

  8. 08

    Developer Handoff

Annotated Figma files, specs, assets and design reviews during development, so the built product matches the approved design.

How a project runs

Clear stages with a review at the end of each, so you always know what happens next and what it costs.

  1. 01

    Discover

Stakeholder and user interviews, analytics review and a competitor scan.

  2. 02

    Define

Personas, journeys, information architecture and key flows.

  3. 03

    Design

Wireframes, then high-fidelity UI and interactive prototypes in Figma.

  4. 04

    Validate

Usability tests on key flows, followed by design revisions.

  5. 05

    Handoff and Support

Design system, specs and ongoing reviews during development.

UI/UX Design in Australia, answered

Something else on your mind? Ask a consultant and get a reply within one business day.

Do you design to the Digital Service Standard?

Yes, for government and government-funded services. We apply its criteria, such as understanding user needs, making services accessible and inclusive, and testing with real users, and keep the research evidence an assessment panel may ask for. For private sector products the same practices simply make the design stronger.

Can you redesign our app without rebuilding it?

Often, yes. We audit the current experience, fix the highest-impact journeys first and deliver designs that fit your existing components and code, so your developers can ship improvements sprint by sprint. A full visual refresh can follow once the core flows work better.

Can you create a design system for our developers?

Yes. We build tokens, components and usage guidelines in Figma that match the framework your team uses, with accessibility notes on every component. Our glossary explains what a design system includes and how it speeds up later design and development work.
