Software, App and AI Development for Australian Businesses

An India-based team that overlaps with your afternoon, builds for the Privacy Act and Australian payments, and delivers code you own outright.

Afternoon overlap with the east coast, most of the day with Perth

Sydney and Melbourne are 4.5 hours ahead of India on standard time (AEST) and 5.5 hours ahead during daylight saving (AEDT), which runs from the first Sunday in October to the first Sunday in April. Queensland does not use daylight saving, so Brisbane stays 4.5 hours ahead all year, and Perth is 2.5 hours ahead with no change. A team starting at 8:30 AM IST is online from 1:00 PM in Sydney in winter and 2:00 PM in summer, which gives east coast clients their afternoon for stand-ups and reviews and gives Perth clients most of their day. Requests raised in your afternoon are usually worked through during the rest of the Indian day and are ready before you start the next morning.

From Dehradun to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra and Gold Coast

Nexzem Technologies is a software, app and AI development company in Dehradun, India. We have no Australian office or staff. Australian founders, SMEs and agencies work with us remotely, and the geography helps: India is only a few hours behind the east coast, so the Indian morning lands in your afternoon and the team keeps working on your requests while your day winds down.

Building for Australia means designing around the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles, the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme, Consumer Data Right rules in banking and energy, GST-inclusive pricing and payment habits shaped by PayID, eftpos and Afterpay. Accounting usually means Xero or MYOB. Our app development and AI development teams treat these as defaults rather than surprises late in a project.

This page explains how hours line up with Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth, the regulations that most often shape Australian software, how contracts and IP work with an Indian company, and the questions Australian buyers ask before starting.

Rules your product has to meet in Australia

General information, not legal advice. We design for these from the first sprint and work alongside your counsel on the specifics.

  1. 01

Privacy Act 1988 and the APPs

The 13 Australian Privacy Principles apply to most businesses with annual turnover above AUD 3 million and to health service providers of any size. APP 8 makes you accountable for how an overseas recipient, such as an offshore developer, handles personal information. General information, not legal advice.

  2. 02

    Notifiable Data Breaches scheme

An eligible data breach likely to cause serious harm must be reported to the OAIC and affected individuals. Suspected breaches must be assessed promptly, within 30 days, so vendor contracts need fast notification duties and systems need the logs to investigate.

  3. 03

    Consumer Data Right

The CDR gives consumers the right to share their banking and energy data with accredited recipients. Data holders and recipients must follow the CDR Rules and the Consumer Data Standards, covering APIs, consent flows and security profiles.

  4. 04

    Disability Discrimination Act and WCAG

The Disability Discrimination Act 1992 covers access to goods and services, including websites and apps, and the Australian Human Rights Commission points to WCAG as the benchmark. Government digital services also follow the Digital Service Standard.

  5. 05

Spam Act and Australian Consumer Law

Commercial emails and SMS need consent, sender identification and a working unsubscribe. The Australian Consumer Law bans misleading claims, requires total prices including GST to be shown prominently and gives consumers guarantees that no terms page can remove.

  6. 06

    Essential Eight and the ISM

The Australian Signals Directorate's Essential Eight maturity model and the Information Security Manual are common reference points for government and enterprise buyers. Patching, MFA, application control and backups appear in their security questionnaires.

Why teams in Australia choose Nexzem

Same-day turnaround

Feedback given in your afternoon is usually built and on staging before your next morning, because the Indian day continues after yours ends.

  • Australian payments and accounting

Stripe, Tyro, PayID, PayTo, Afterpay, Zip, Xero and MYOB integrations are part of our standard toolkit, with GST-inclusive pricing logic.

  • Data kept onshore where it counts

Production systems can run in AWS Sydney or Melbourne and Azure Australia East, with developers working on synthetic data and logged access.

  • Compliance-aware delivery

Privacy policies, consent capture, breach logging and accessibility checks are planned in early sprints, so APP and WCAG reviews do not cause rework.

  • Code and IP that are yours

Repositories sit in your organization from the first commit, with copyright assigned in writing and moral rights consents included.

Contracts, billing and IP for clients in Australia

How an engagement with an India-based team works when your company is in Australia.

  • Contracts and governing law

An MSA and statement of work under the law of your Australian state can be agreed, often with arbitration, since Australia and India both enforce awards under the New York Convention.

  • NDA and data handling terms

A mutual NDA is signed before detailed discussions. Where personal information is involved, the contract sets APP-consistent handling rules and a deadline for telling you about any suspected breach.

  • IP assignment and moral rights

Under the Copyright Act 1968 a contractor owns what it creates unless assigned in writing, and authors hold moral rights. Our contracts cover both, so you can modify and commercialize the work freely.

  • Billing in AUD

Invoicing in AUD can be discussed. Fixed-scope projects bill by milestone, dedicated teams monthly per seat, and time and material work against weekly timesheets.

  • GST on imported services

Services supplied by an overseas business to a GST-registered Australian business are generally not charged GST by the supplier, with a reverse charge in some cases. Your accountant should confirm your position.

Questions from Australia

Something else on your mind? Ask a consultant and get a reply within one business day.

How much overlap will we get with Sydney or Melbourne?

Usually your full afternoon. With the team starting early in India, developers and the project lead are online from around 1:00 PM Sydney time in winter and 2:00 PM during daylight saving. Perth clients get most of their working day, and Brisbane's overlap stays the same all year because Queensland does not change its clocks.

How do you meet APP 8 when developers are in India?

APP 8 requires reasonable steps to ensure an overseas recipient handles personal information consistently with the APPs, and you remain accountable. We support that with contractual handling terms, hosting in Australian cloud regions, synthetic data in development and logged, approved production access. This is general information, not legal advice.

Who notifies the OAIC if there is a data breach?

The obligation sits with the regulated entity, normally you. Our contracts require us to tell you quickly about any suspected incident affecting your systems and to supply the logs and timeline you need for the assessment, so you can decide within the NDB time limits whether notification is required.

Can you integrate with Xero, MYOB and Australian payment methods?

Yes. Common builds include Xero and MYOB sync for invoices and payroll, Stripe or Tyro card payments, PayID and PayTo account-to-account payments, Afterpay and Zip at checkout, and Australia Post, Sendle or Shippit for delivery. See our ecommerce development work for how these fit together.

Can you help with a Consumer Data Right project?

We can build data holder APIs or data recipient features against the Consumer Data Standards, including consent and dashboard flows. Accreditation, conformance testing and registration with the CDR Register remain with your organization or an accredited intermediary, so those steps are planned alongside the build from the start.

Do Australian and Indian public holidays slow things down?

They are planned rather than discovered. Both calendars, including state holidays such as Melbourne Cup Day in Melbourne and Indian festivals such as Diwali, go into the sprint plan at kickoff. Release dates avoid them, and support cover for production systems is agreed separately.
