Cloud Architecture and Migration for Australian Businesses

Onshore environments in Sydney or Melbourne, built as code in your accounts, aligned with the Essential Eight and supported in your afternoon.

Cloud Services for Australia

Cloud Services, built around how Australia works

For Australian organizations, cloud decisions often start with location, because customers, boards and regulators ask where data is held. AWS, Azure and Google Cloud all run regions in Sydney and Melbourne, and Azure's Canberra regions serve government workloads, so most systems can stay entirely onshore with disaster recovery in a second Australian city. Nexzem designs, migrates and runs these environments for Australian clients from India.

Security expectations are shaped by the Essential Eight and, for government, the ISM, IRAP assessments and the Hosting Certification Framework. APRA-regulated entities follow CPS 234 on information security and CPS 230 on operational risk, which reaches into how cloud and other service providers are managed. This is general information, not legal advice.

Onshore hosting and government requirements

Federal agencies favor cloud services assessed under IRAP and hosting providers certified under the Hosting Certification Framework, especially for PROTECTED data. Some engagements require Australian security clearances or onshore administration; when they do, we say so plainly and support your Australian team rather than administer the environment from India.

For private sector clients, onshore hosting with documented, logged administrative access is much easier to explain under APP 8 than data replicated offshore, and we write that documentation as part of the handover.

Essential Eight and resilience

Many Essential Eight controls sit on staff devices and corporate IT rather than cloud workloads, so we map which ones the cloud environment covers and which stay with your IT team. Cloud-side controls we build in:

  • MFA on every console and administrative path
  • Patching of operating systems and managed services on a defined cadence
  • Restricted administrative privileges with just-in-time access
  • Regular, tested backups stored in a separate account
  • Hardened images and application control on servers
  • Centralized logs for incident investigation and NDB assessments

What our cloud services covers

Cloud architecture, migration, operations and cost control on AWS, Azure and Google Cloud, delivered by one team.

  1. 01

    Cloud architecture design

Network layout, compute choices, storage tiers and failover planned around your traffic patterns, data rules and budget, then documented so any engineer can follow it.

  2. 02

    Infrastructure as code

Terraform templates for every environment, so staging and production match, changes go through review and a lost region can be rebuilt from version control.

  3. 03

    Cloud-native app development

Containerised services, serverless functions and managed databases built to scale with demand, instead of oversized servers sitting idle all night.

  4. 04

    Migration and modernisation

Move workloads from on-premise servers, shared hosting or another cloud with planned cutovers, data validation and a tested rollback path.

  5. 05

    Monitoring and alerting

Dashboards, log collection and alert rules that tell the right person about real problems before customers notice, without flooding inboxes with noise.

  6. 06

    Backup and disaster recovery

Automated snapshots, cross-region copies and documented restore drills, so recovery time and acceptable data loss are known numbers rather than guesses.

  7. 07

    Cost management

Rightsizing, reserved capacity planning, storage lifecycle rules and tagging that shows which product or client is driving each line of the bill.

How a project runs

Clear stages with a review at the end of each, so you always know what happens next and what it costs.

  1. 01

    Discovery call

We learn about your product, users, compliance needs and current setup, then agree on goals such as uptime, release speed or lower cost.

  2. 02

    Assessment

Our engineers review existing infrastructure, code and bills to find risks, waste and quick wins, and share the findings in plain language.

  3. 03

    Architecture and plan

You receive a target design, timeline and a fixed quote or team plan, with trade-offs explained so you can decide with confidence.

  4. 04

    Build and deploy

We write infrastructure as code, set up pipelines and move workloads in stages, testing each step before production traffic arrives.

  5. 05

    Operate and improve

Monitoring, patching and monthly cost reviews keep the platform healthy, with a clear handover pack if your own team takes over.

The stack behind it

Proven, well-supported tools chosen for your scale, budget and team, never for novelty.

  • AWS
  • Azure
  • Google Cloud
  • Terraform
  • Docker
  • Kubernetes
  • GitHub Actions
  • Grafana

Cloud Services in Australia, answered

Something else on your mind? Ask a consultant and get a reply within one business day.

Can you migrate the servers in our office to the cloud?

Yes. We inventory what runs on them, decide per workload whether to rehost, replatform or replace with SaaS, then migrate in stages with a tested rollback. File servers often move to SharePoint or managed file storage, and line-of-business apps to virtual machines or containers. See cloud migration.

How do you keep cloud costs under control?

Australian regions are often priced higher than the largest US regions, so waste shows up quickly. We tag resources by owner, rightsize, schedule non-production environments to switch off out of hours, use savings plans for steady workloads and set budget alerts. Our cloud cost optimization reviews run monthly or quarterly.

Do you provide support during Australian business hours?

Our team is online for your afternoon, and routine maintenance can run after your day ends. Coverage for your mornings, which fall in the Indian night, is agreed explicitly in a managed cloud services plan, with monitoring alerts and on-call response times written down.
