How it works.

  1. 01

    Choose platforms

Web, Android, iOS or a mix. For both mobile platforms, choose one cross-platform codebase or two native apps.

  2. 02

    Pick launch features

Only what version one needs. Payments, maps, messaging and ERP or CRM sync count as integrations; add any others with the counter.

  3. 03

    Set design and team

Custom visual identity and animation add design weeks. A bigger team shortens the build, but not in proportion.

  4. 04

    Read the plan

Discovery, design, build sprints, QA and launch on a weekly grid, with a launch date and the cost band for the same scope.

Build effort5 weeks base + 0.8 per feature + 1.2 per integrationOur planning model for a three-person squad, with extra weeks for a web app alongside mobile (2.5), two native apps (4), real-time features (1.5) and AI features (1.5).
Team speed-up3 people 1x, 5 people 1.4x, 7 people 1.65xPlanning assumption: adding people shortens the build less than proportionally, because coordination, review and integration work grow with team size.
Design overlapBuild starts at 60% of designCore flows are designed and approved first; secondary screens are designed while early sprints run.

What really sets an MVP timeline

Scope, not speed of typing. Every feature is design, code and test time, and every integration brings someone else's API, sandbox, edge cases and approval process. The quickest way to an earlier launch is almost always a smaller version one: one platform or one cross-platform codebase, the single journey that proves your idea, and manual workarounds for everything else.

Decisions are the other hidden lever. Teams that agree priorities quickly, sign off designs in days rather than weeks and keep one person accountable for product calls ship on time far more often. Our guide on how to build an MVP and the comparison of an MVP vs a proof of concept go deeper.

How we run the phases

Discovery turns the idea into a feature list, user flows, architecture and a sprint plan. Design starts with wireframes for the core flows, so building can begin while secondary screens are still being designed. The build runs in two-week sprints with a working demo at the end of each, so you see progress and can change priorities without waiting for a big reveal.

QA runs inside every sprint, then a hardening phase covers regression, performance and security before release. For mobile apps, plan the store accounts early: new personal Google Play accounts need a 14-day closed test, and store listings, privacy details and screenshots take time to prepare. See our product discovery service if you want the first phase on its own.

How long does it take to build an MVP?

Most focused MVPs take about 8 to 16 weeks from discovery to launch. One platform and a handful of features sit at the low end; several platforms, payments, real-time features and many integrations push it higher. Anything much beyond 16 weeks is usually better split into phased releases.

Does adding developers make it faster?

Up to a point. A larger team can build more in parallel, but coordination, code review and integration grow with every person. That is why going from three to seven people in this estimator shortens the build by less than half.

Cross-platform or native: which is faster?

For Android and iOS together, one cross-platform codebase in Flutter or React Native is usually faster and cheaper than two native apps, often by roughly a third on cost. Native makes sense when you need deep platform features or the best possible performance.

Why does design take several weeks?

Good design work includes user flows, wireframes, a visual style and the detailed screens, with time for feedback. Building on approved designs avoids expensive rework. Standard component libraries are quicker than a fully custom identity with animation.

How long do App Store and Google Play reviews take?

Apple says most submissions are reviewed within 24 hours, though rejections add another round. Google Play publishes no target and some reviews take up to seven days or longer. New personal Google Play accounts also need a 14-day closed test with 12 testers before production.

What should not be in an MVP?

Anything that does not help you learn whether users want the core product: admin conveniences you can do by hand, advanced settings, multiple languages, complex analytics and edge-case flows. Keep a list for version two.

How accurate is this estimate?

It is a planning model, not a quote. Use the range rather than the single number, and expect discovery to refine it. After a short discovery we give a sprint-by-sprint plan with a fixed price or a monthly team cost.

What does the cost band mean?

It is the indicative band from our app cost calculator for the same platforms, features and design choices, based on our published 2026 pricing guide. Open it from the link under the timeline to see the drivers.

Can I share the plan?

Yes. Your selections are kept in the page address, so copying the link reproduces the same plan. Unlock the full report to get dated phases and a printable version.

Can Nexzem build our MVP?

Yes. We build MVPs for web and mobile in two-week sprints with a demo at each milestone. Share your idea on the contact page and a consultant will reply within one business day.
