Web Application Development for the United Kingdom

Web Application Development, built around how the United Kingdom works

UK companies commission web applications for familiar reasons: a customer portal to replace phone and email, a booking or quoting system that outgrew spreadsheets, or a platform for partners and resellers. Nexzem builds them with React, Next.js, Node.js, Python or .NET from India, with daily overlap across your morning and early afternoon.

The UK context changes some design decisions. Cookie consent has to satisfy PECR and the ICO, accessibility is judged against WCAG 2.2, many clients want data hosted in UK regions, and integrations often include HMRC, Companies House, Xero or Sage. Public sector projects add the GOV.UK Service Standard and the GOV.UK Design System on top.

UK integrations and public sector services

Public sector web applications are assessed against the GOV.UK Service Standard and must meet the accessibility regulations, so we build with GOV.UK Design System patterns and test with the assistive technologies used in service assessments. Integrations UK web apps commonly need:

  • HMRC Making Tax Digital APIs for VAT and income tax submissions
  • Companies House API for company checks during onboarding
  • Xero, Sage and QuickBooks for accounting sync
  • GoCardless Direct Debit and Open Banking payments
  • GOV.UK Notify and GOV.UK One Login for public services
  • Postcode lookup against Royal Mail address data

Hosting in the UK with an offshore team

Most UK clients host in AWS London, Azure UK South or Google Cloud London, deployed into their own accounts with infrastructure as code. Our engineers work on staging with synthetic data, and production access from India is limited, logged and covered by the transfer documentation described on our UK page.

What our web application development covers

Browser-based software for customers or staff: portals, dashboards and SaaS products built to scale securely.

  1. 01

    SaaS Product Development

Multi-tenant SaaS platforms with sign-up, subscription billing, team accounts and usage tracking, built so each customer's data stays isolated.

  2. 02

    Customer Portals

Self-service portals where clients view orders, invoices, documents and tickets, cutting the emails and calls your support staff handle daily.

  3. 03

    Internal Dashboards

Operations dashboards that pull data from your ERP, CRM and spreadsheets into one screen, with filters, exports and role-based views.

  4. 04

    Progressive Web Apps

Installable web apps that work offline, send push notifications and feel close to native, without the cost of separate store apps.

  5. 05

    Workflow Automation Tools

Approval chains, task assignment and notifications that replace email threads and spreadsheets for purchase requests, onboarding or field reports.

  6. 06

    Real-Time Features

Live chat, notifications, collaborative editing and live tracking built on WebSockets, so users see changes the moment they happen.

  7. 07

    Legacy App Modernisation

Move an ageing PHP, .NET or Java application to a modern stack in stages, keeping the business running while each module is replaced.

How a project runs

Clear stages with a review at the end of each, so you always know what happens next and what it costs.

  1. 01

    Discovery Workshop

We map users, roles, workflows and integrations, then turn them into a prioritised backlog and fixed quote.

  2. 02

    Architecture and UX

The data model, API design and clickable prototypes are agreed before sprint one begins.

  3. 03

    Iterative Build

Two-week sprints deliver working features to staging, with code review and automated tests on each change.

  4. 04

    Security and Load Testing

We test permissions, common vulnerabilities and performance under expected traffic before release.

  5. 05

    Release and Iterate

Production launch with monitoring and backups, followed by support or a dedicated team for the roadmap.

Web Application Development in UK, answered

Something else on your mind? Ask a consultant and get a reply within one business day.

Do we need a DPIA for our web application?

UK GDPR requires a DPIA when processing is likely to result in high risk, for example large-scale special category data, systematic monitoring or innovative technology applied to personal data. Many portals fall below that line, but a short screening is worth doing. We provide the technical input; the DPIA is owned by you as controller.

Can you meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA?

Yes. We design and build to WCAG 2.2 AA, then audit with automated tools, keyboard testing and screen readers such as NVDA and VoiceOver. For public sector clients we help draft the accessibility statement the regulations require. Accessibility testing can be repeated before major releases.

Can you take over a web app another agency built?

Yes. We start with a code and infrastructure audit covering dependencies, security issues, test coverage and documentation gaps, then agree a stabilization plan before adding features. If the codebase is too fragile to extend safely, application modernization in stages is usually safer than a full rewrite.
